Wiki Reviews’ Most Important Aspect: They’re Local

It’s all about local.

Wiki reviews are very simple when you get down to it, and the most important thing about them is that they are local.

Google, Yelp, Foursquare and other sites have finally realized that it’s all about local. Where you are, *when* you are. That’s great for when you’re a tourist in an area, but it becomes a step beyond when you actually live there. This is the livelihood of friends, neighbors and families. And that’s why wiki reviews has local moderators. Live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and want to be involved with moderating your local reviews? Want to just verify that businesses are in the right location, or just want to practice your photography and take a picture of all the local shops? Our participation feature allows you to do just that. On Wednesday, we will delve into the Participation feature of our site, to show how collaboration and community go hand in hand to create trusted reviews.

Get listed has a great article about why local search is so important:

Today there are well over 10 billion unique searches done each month, and that’s just in the United States! Of those searches,

  • 20% of Desktop queries have Local intent (1)
    • 5% use the city and/or state name (2)
    • 2% use informal terms, like neighborhoods (2)
    • 0.5% use zip codes (2)
  • 50%+ of Mobile queries have Local intent (4).

Based on Google’s market share, we can extrapolate that there are OVER TWO BILLION unique Local searches per month on Google from Desktop computers in the United States.

We saw both Google and Yahoo, and now Bing, make dramatic shifts in how they return results in 2008, and all the trends point to Local.

On top of that data, mobile search is absolutely exploding. Approximately one in five searches is performed from a mobile device 3. In some places around the world, like Japan, this number is even higher. Mobile searches primarily pull their results from Local Search Engines.

As you can see, that’s why it is important for us to have mobile apps for tablets, phones and the website itself ready at launch.

How can you help right now? The answer is simple: Help us with our Indiegogo campaign, and become a part of collaborative, community-driven, trusted reviews today!
